Does a tonic remove all make-up residues? Is a toner an unnecessary luxury product? And aren't those two products just the same? The terms tonic and toner are often confused in the beauty industry, whether or not used synonymously. It is therefore not surprising that we sometimes struggle to tell the products apart. But, there is certainly a difference between these two beauty products. In other words, haziness everywhere, and we are happy to eliminate this. Read on and discover the difference between a toner and a tonic.  

What is a toner?

We can say that a toner can work wonders for your skin. It strengthens the skin barrier and balances the skin’s pH levels. Toner is meant to be used after washing your face but before using your serum or moisturizer. Because, a toner prepares the skin to drink up your post-cleansing moisturizer and any other skin treatments that you may apply. So it is the first important leave-on product after cleansing.

What is a tonic?

A facial tonic usually has a disinfecting or strong degreasing effect to give the skin an extra fresh and clean feeling after cleansing. However, it is important to note that a tonic is not a cleansing product on its own. This refreshing product helps to remove makeup residue and dirt that remains after washing with water, and reduces clogged pores. The main purpose of a tonic is to create a clean feeling and imperfection-free skin. 

But, beware... Tonics can contain ingredients such as alcohol, eucalyptus or mint; substances that can dry out your skin. These ingredients provide that fresh feeling, but can also irritate sensitive or oily skin.
