How would you describe the woman that perfectly represents SURÉE?

“I would describe the SURÉE woman as a stylish lady who’s always in search of that little bit of extra in the products she purchases. She has clear preferences for sustainable products that are a reflection of true craftsmanship. She looks to add comfort to her busy existence, she’s definitely a worldly woman and classics characterize her personal style.”

You come from a family of leather crafters, so you could have chosen any leather product. Why did you chose mules/loafers?

“The idea for SURÉE came about when I was in Australia, talking to an authentic leather crafter. I told him about my Turkish origins and family history of leather crafters. I wanted to start off with a product that represented my personal story: an ode to my roots. So, I traveled to Gaziantep – previously known as Mesopotamia – where my forefathers originate from, and I started researching. My Mules and Classics are based on the ancient designs from that area.” 

The variation in your collection can mainly be found in the different materials and colors, not so much in the design. Why this choice?

“SURÉE stands for durability which includes sustainable design. SURÉE footwear is crafted according to ancient techniques and are true classics. They’re fully made by hand and have been tested on durability and quality before putting them on the market.”

Which pair in the collection is your favorite and why?

“That’s a hard question to answer, but if I have to choose, it would be the Leo and the Pierrot – they hold a special place in my heart. The Leo is the first design I made and the deep colors make them easy to team with any outfit. The Pierrot are a statement piece for which I’ve been stopped in the streets multiple times. But I also love the Copper & Desert that so beautifully suit all neutrals.” 

What would be your ideal styling with a pair of SURÉE shoes

“I really think that you can team SURÉE with anything. Whether it’s a casual outfit with jeans, a statement kimono or a more formal suit – just take your pick. Also good to know: they’re perfect to wear on a warm day at the beach because of the natural way that leather breathes.”

What are your future ambitions for SURÉE?

“SURÉE stems from a love for the product and the craftsmanship linked to it. It’s a journey of wanting to create stylish and durable items that are a reflection of craftsmanship, so I think the possibilities are limitless. To give an example: we’ve recently started educating a group of young Syrian refugees that want to learn about leather crafting. They start out with ‘quality control’ and will later on chose a specialty with guidance from our craft masters. I’m so grateful to be a part of this project.”
