Due to the unique natural and sustainable quality of the wool fiber, wool is actually very easy to take care of. It is a natural product with a self-cleaning effect, but it is still useful to know some things about the care of wool!

Woolen clothing does not need to be washed after each wear, just let your favorite sweaters and cardi's get some fresh air or use your shower's vapor to remove odors from your clothes. The Wool & Cashmere Spray from The Laundress is ideal to keep your clothes delightfully fresh between washings.

When it's time to wash your woolen pieces, use a special wool wash cycle on your washing machine - it is set at a cool temperature and lower spinning speed. This will prevent the garment from deforming or shrinking. Hand wash is also a good choice, just make sure that the temperature of the water is not too high. It is wise to use a special mild wool detergent; this does not contain enzymes. The enzymes in "regular" detergents break down the keratin proteins of wool, making it lose its elasticity and therefore damage it. A couple of laundry tips:
- When hand washing your woolen items, don't wring but squeeze the wool carefully.
- Rinse the wool with lukewarm water after washing.
- Wool should not be brushed!
- Wool weaves stay best when you hang them in 'shape' soaking wet, but wool knitwear prefers to dry lying flat.
- When ironing (at low temperature), use a damp cloth between the iron and the garment to prevent the wool from scorching.

Wool knits pill naturally - this is a characteristic feature and you should not see it as a flaw, but if you want to remove the pilling from your favorite items, use a good fuzz razor, Sweater Stone or Sweater Comb.
